2016

We began our 19th Season with the Westhampton Beach St. Patrick's Parade that we skipped last year due to heavy rain. At the favor of one of our members, we gave a Living History demonstration at a very unusual location, the Bayport Aerodrome. At our June meeting, we videotaped our Musket Masters, Dave Courtenay and Bill Hague, giving their annual lesson on musket maintenance. And true to the 1st Bull Run curse, we traveled Cedar Creek battlefield for the 155th Anniversary of First Bull Run with temperatures well into the triple digits. Our 8th Annual Civil War Weekeend at the Grange was our largest to date and in November we visited Baiting Hollow Church in Calverton for the very first time to celebrate their 225th Anniversary. This Remembrance Day we took an extensive tour of the battlefield on the Friday that captured on video. We also recorded one of monthly drills at the Grange in October.

This video was shot by one of our fans, Chris Lauterbach. In his own words... The 8th Annual Civil War Weekend At The Grange was held over the weekend of September 16-18, 2016. This year the 'Battle of Deserted House' was fought. It is fully captioned. It is one of the best Civil War reenactments held on Long Island. It brings together Union and Confederate reenactment groups from Long Island. There are mock skirmishes and mock battles. It is a great educational event for adults and children.

155th Anniversary of First Bull Run

Middletown, VA

July 22 - 24, 2016

PART ONE:
The 155th Anniversary of First Bull Run was held at Cedar Creek Battlefield and just like the 145th & 150th, Mother Nature sent the mercury well above 100F baking everyone in their own juices. That July weekend seems to be cursed for our community. Anyway, the 67th NY send a large contingent and was able to pass the time the best we could. Special thanks to Mike Boyle for serving as cameraman for the weekend.

PART TWO:
Given the extreme heat, activity was restricted however we did perform Dress Parade and the start of Saturday's battle scenario can be seen near the end of the clip. Since YouTube only allows 15 minutes of HD video, we had to chop Saturday's battle into four sections.

PART THREE:
Footage of Saturday's battle at the 155th Anniversary of the Battle of First Bull Run. Thankfully, the narrator can be clearly heard to explain what you are seeing.

PART FOUR:
Saturday's battle continued.

PART FIVE:
The conclusion to Saturday's battle scenario.

Musket Maintenance with Bill & Dave

Sayville, NY

June 26, 2016

PART ONE:

PART TWO:
In addition to cleaning, they give a brief review of using the musket safely in the ranks.

PART THREE: There is also the 'quick' cleaning procedure for when you're on the road and don't have too much time to give your musket extensive TLC.
