Year in Review
Our 2008 season began with another visit to Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia for our battalion’s NCO School soon followed by our double-header St. Patrick’s Day Parades on Long Island. We returned to old regulars such as Neshaminy in April and Cedar Creek in October. In March, we ventured into new territory hosting an event of our own, the 1st Civil War Fair, inside Lindenhurst Fireman’s Hall. Our calendar of school programs was full including Smithtown Historical Society. As for Gettysburg, we paid no less than three separate visits. The first was in July where we joined in Gettysburg 145, probably the largest Civil War reenactment in a decade with well over 13,000 participating. The second was in September when our battalion, the Mifflin Guard, was chose to officially open the new Visitors Center. Lastly, we returned to end the season on Remembrance Day and held yet another period ball at the Carroll Valley.
