Year in Review
Our first full year of existence saw us find a new home (the Grange), new flags (from Steven Hill), and setting standards to follow in education, preservation, and authenticity. We received recognition from New York State as an Educational Non-Profit with official charter. Taking to heart the first paragraph of that charter, we embarked on our first school and other educational programs that helped fill our treasury with enough funds to purchase inventory for the company and gathered primary source material on the original 67th NY, First Long Island from a wide variety of sources including a couple of the soldiers’ descendants. Of our events chronicled this year with photography, the 1st Hallockville Civil War Weekend was the most ambitious of the education programs and we were joined by many friends in the Living History community. However, the undoubted climax of the year was the 135th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, probably the largest ever held. Quite the event to make one’s debut on the scene.
