14th Annual Civil War Weekend at the Grange

Sayville, NY

September 17 - 18, 2022

While we in NY needed some serious rain we were extremely pleased at having perfect & dry weather for this 14th time out. We were joined by the usual suspects: the 9th Virginia & 30th Virginia infantries as well as the 6th NY Independent Battery. However, we had an additional parrot rifle, a recent purchase by our Paul Brinkman. On Saturday, we were joined by the Sons & Daughters of Union Veterans holding their meeting and George Munkenbeck, Islip Town Historian & Chaplain/Surgeon of Co. H, 14th Brooklyn, did dual duty in the chapel and hospital. Coincidentally, Saturday was the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, the Bloodiest Single Day in American History, and for the battle scenario we incorporated elements including the Confederate 'Special Order 101' discovered by Federal soldiers wrapped around a bunch of cigars. The pubic response was incredible and our camps were packed with visitors. Let's hope we can make it to a 15th in 2023.
