William Van Ness

Regimental Quartermaster

William Van Ness was born in January 1827 and enlisted with his brother, Henry Van Ness, with the 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers on June 24, 1861. William was mustered in as 1st Lieutenant, serving as Regimental Quartermaster. He was appointed Acting Brigade Quartermaster (Graham's Brigade) on September 26, 1861 and was promoted to Captain on February 19, 1862. William continued serving as Acting Quarter Master of the 9th, 18th, and 23rd Army Corps until he was discharged in March 1866. William died on January 12, 1896.
