Twenty-two year old William Jewel enlisted as Private in Co. H, 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers on June 24, 1861 at Rochester NY. He was wounded in action on May 31, 1862 at the Battle of Seven Pines and discharged for disability on February 25, 1863 at Fort Monroe, VA
