Nicholas Ford, age 32 at the time, enlisted on June 15, 1861 in Brooklyn to serve three years. Mustering in as a private in Co. I on June 20, 1861, Ford was promoted to the rank of corporal on October 30, 1861. Ford was later killed in action on May 31, 1862 a the Battle of Seven Pines.
