Twenty-eight year old John W. Fisher enlisted on May 27, 1861 at New York City as 2nd Lieutenant of the 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers. On June 24, 1861 he was commissioned into Company H, on September 6, 1862 he was promoted to First Lieutenant, and on November 9, 1863 he was made Captain. He Mustered Out on July 4, 1864 at New York City.
