Nelson Cross

Lieutenant Colonel

Thirty-six year old Nelson Cross enlisted with the 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers at Brooklyn on May 14, 1861. He was mustered in as Lieutenant Colonel on June 24, 1861.

After the resignation of Colonel Julius Adams, Nelson Cross was promoted to full Colonel on October 19, 1862 and remained the leader of the 67th New York until its final Mustering Out on July 4, 1864 in New York City. On March 13, 1865, he was brevetted Brigadier General and Major General of the U.S. Volunteers.

Nelson Cross died March 13, 1897 in Dorchester, MA.
