John Bliss

Captain, Company I

John Bliss enrolled at Washington, D. C., to serve three years; appointed second lieutenant, Co. F, November 23, 1861; mustered in to Co. I, December 1, 1861; as first lieutenant, June 1, 1862; as captain, October 19, 1862; mustered out, June 7, 1864, at Washington, D. C. In General John Newton's report on the Gettysburg campaign, he mentions Bliss as being wounded. 'I conclude this report of the battle of Gettysburg by paying my tribute to the gallant and efficient conduct of my staff… Capt. John S. Bliss, Sixty-seventh New York Volunteers, aide-de-camp, severely wounded.'
