William S. Capach was born December 27, 1841 and enrolled in Company K, 67th NY on June 24, 1861. Private Capach was wounded in action, May 31, 1862, at the Battle of Seven Pines and discharged for disability on July 9, 1862 at Washington DC. The bullet that wounded him killed the soldier in front of him instantly and lodged close to his heart. He carried the bullet for the rest of his life as it was too dangerous to remove. During his stay at Douglas Hospital in Washington, Private Capach recalled 'I well remember shaking the hands of that dear old man, the President of the United States, A. Lincoln'.
William Capach married Phoebe Marie McClellan in 1863. Her father was Weller McClellan, a brother to General George B. McClellan. After the War he was a cabinet maker and later in life moved to Dehli, NY with his wife to live with his daughter and husband. William Capach died on December 13, 1920.
