Thirty-two year old Henry Van Ness enlisted on May 5, 1861 at Astoria, NY as Captain of Co. F of the 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers.
Captain Van Ness was wounded in action at the Battle of Seven Pines on May 31, 1862. He was promoted to Major on November 18 the same year and to Lt. Colonel on July 2, 1863. He mustered out with the Regiment on July 4, 1864.
Henry Van Ness died in Louisville, KY on January 2, 1874.
