The men of the battalion that had joined the regiment during the summer of 1861 and had chosen not to re-enlist for another 3 years departed for Brooklyn, New York June 20 and mustered out of service July 4, 1864. The 67th New York is consolidated down to five companies A-E.

July 9 - 13: Moved to Washington D.C.; Repulse of Early's Attack on Fort Stevens and the Northern Defenses of Washington

August 1: Transferred with the rest of 6th Corps into the Army of the Shenandoah

August 7 - September 1: Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley Campaign

The remnants of the First Long Island Volunteers are merged with the 65th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment "1st U.S. Chasseurs", where they form four of the ten re-organized companies of the 65th New York (companies A, B, D and E) September 1, 1864.
