15th Annual Civil War Weekend at the Grange

Sayville, NY

September 30 - October 1, 2023

Unfortunately, this year was the first since our 4th time out (when Hurricane Sandy struck) did our big event get somewhat derailed by the elements. Fortunately, however, the heavy rains flooding the NY area let up by midday Saturday and after a later start we managed to set up a full camp. By 1pm on Saturday, the skies started clearing and we actually got visitors! Our event partners were as undaunted as ourselves with both the 9th Virginia & 30th Virginia present, the 6th NY Independent Artillery with their two pieces, and Town of Islip Town Historian, George Munkenbeck, serving dual duty as Chaplain and surgeon at his hospital. The Sons of Union Veterans and Society of the Grand Army of the Republic (SOGAR) also returned. We had clear skies and a full mooon on Saturday evening followed by brilliant suny and warm weather on Sunday that dried out all the canvas. On Sunday, we packed a full schedule including church services in the morning and our afternoon skirmish. Hopefully, the dry streak will resume next year. Special thanks to contributing photographers including Ted Phillips.
